Burnley Combined Court

OVERVIEW

The exact scope of works included local removal of existing elevation finishes. Installation of a new waterproof membrane. Bolting a new stainless steel structural Metsec matrix into the existing masonry fabric of the elevations. Installation of new compliant insulation batts and fire cavity closers. Applying new external cladding panels / tiles consisting of purpose designed and manufactured units from Portugal the procurement process of which was project managed and expedited by the Intelligent FS Project Manager. The Alumasc renderbrick cladding was installed from ground floor level to a max height of 2.1m. This installation process required the installation of fire compliant solid insulation batts. Fixing of a reinforced mesh blanket. The application of the renderbrick product rainscreen tiling; a 10ml backing coat and two the final decorative coat. Intelligent FS provided a fulltime cladding manager resident on site to oversee and ensure compliance of the cladding installation. Due to the works being undertaken in an environment where the courts were operating with “a business as usual” routine communication was critical to ensure the clients operations were not affected and in addition the programme of works was not delayed or disrupted. Regular “start of the day” meetings were held with the client representative and our cladding manager. These meetings were used to set out the short-term programme activities, the potential effects upon the workings of the court. Any material deliveries etc.

Intelligent FS were appointed to deliver a complex envelope renewal project at Burnley Combined Courts.  The scheme involved over-cladding with two separate and distinct propriety cladding systems including installation of a new Metsec support matrix. Using a combination of Rainscreen tiles specifically designed, manufactured and imported from Portugal and the Alumasc Renderbrick system.  To ensure quality control was maintained to the highest standards Intelligent FS involved the manufacturers of the cladding systems to undertake formal reporting throughout the project. Keith said “there is nothing more reassuring for the client than for the manufacturer of the product to come along and say “you’re doing a great job”;  “The quality control and installation compliance process adopted by Intelligent FS was perfect.”  This project was finished to such a high standard that the MOJ is using it as a benchmark for future recladding projects.
